My Starbucks Coffee TreatS and How I intend to do good about it.

IMG_0075

If you’re a bit like me, you intend to be a good citizen of this planet. Hence, doing things good for people and resources.

I’ve noticed how coffee addict this world is today. My Opinion: Meh, Its okay..  Does the job in staying up for lectures and sometimes maybe just to act mature ? :P

So it’s quite evident that I’m not reallllly a coffee person, and more a Mocha person really. I love anything to do with chocolates. Anything like that is good. However, I don’t mind an occasional chill out time with coffee. So my opinion on that is neutral and positive. But I wouldn’t go to say a coffee place every now and then for some coffee. Rather maybe some Darjeeling Tea at home would be good :)

Anyhoo, I did this test/sign up thingi at Microsoft and yay! I won! they sent me a Starbucks pre paid top up card with 10 pounds in it! Wohoo!

So had a nice time with it and every since I’m a Starbucks customer, I’ve been sent lovely happy offers by Starbucks. Nothing that really struck me. But here comes one day in my mail, a Starbucks offer. Everyday I get to have a Brewed Coffee of Café Estima Blend for Free on them!!!! How awesome is that.

IMG_0074

Reasons I like that :

1. Its FREE Coffee from Starbucks EVERYDAY !

2. I can take how much Café Estima Coffee I want!

3. It’s a fair trade coffee. (Very important)

Prior to my Starbucks offers, I really didn’t like them. Mainly because of their inability to be Fair Trade. Certain statistics made a good point in that. I am that kind of a person, and these things do matter.

So how do I intend to do good out of this?

Well Its starbucks fairtrade coffee I’m getting. Over that I’m not paying a penny to them Hence they get to give out more money to coffee farmers.

:)

Convergence made us stuck to the 2GHz processing level for 8 years

I remember when I got my Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz way back in 2002. It was a Dell PC, and I loved it. 7 years later, I own a laptop with 4 times the ram, 10 times the graphics but at a 2GHz processing  speed. Convergence made us shift to Laptops. Now Laptops out number PC’s. Convergence made netbooks. Its what you do what matters now and not what you can do. Netbooks today don’t go beyond the 2GHz mark and neither do any laptops. Intel might have recently shipped their i7, but we never needed anything more. It’s about doing multiple things at the same time with respect to your interest. having 2 laptops was a dream 8 years back and now you can own a top end PC and a netbook. Yet you would spend most of your time on that netbook. This shift, this convergence made the web grow beyond. Gave us a thin client like idea of work. Synchronising everything we love, everything we do. The Web grew with our needs with Web 2.0 . It became what we call cloud computing. Although the RAM on each PC increased tremendously, the processing power did not as it did in the beginning. The world is not at all ready for a thin client environment but it’s becoming a mixture of everything. Both PC and Web work together. Are you ready to use just about any other PC?  Does PC, Personal Computer be any more Personal anymore? People love their stuff. People love their hardware. Infact many companies are more inclined towards the user experience (Software) and looks (fashion and outer beauty)  of things. That is bringing a more meaning to PC. So are we going towards a thin client network ? Nops. I think that was excatly what Microsoft had in mind to start off with their lending pc’s patent. Maybe.

Windows Live Folder Share is now Windows Live Sync with a bit improoved features.

sync.live.com gives:

Error

Access to this server is forbidden from your client

Windows Live FolderShare (previous FolderShare was owned by someone else and then Microsoft bought it) is now going to by Window Live Sync.

Download link ( same features as FolderShare.. but new program..) : [Link]
it wont work as youre gonna get the above error message.

The main featured difference I found between Live Sync(beta) and Live FolderShare(beta) is that in Live Sync you have the ability to remote desktop. .

(Allow remote access to this computer)

That's a big deal ..

No, really! Imagine this:

When i wanted to access a particular file over a device (pc, smartphone), what FolderShare did was it was behind NAT; didnt have a direct connection to the devices I connected FolderShare to; and everytime I download say cow.mp3, it will upload cow.mp3 to a server and i would download it from that server. This creates a Huge time delay and Highly depends on your upload/download speeds which in my case was Not high end.
Therefore, if youre in a home/LAN-ed network its great for fast easy secure transfers .. in office and work! (ie, it creates a direct connection to your device- smartphone or pc)

Why am I emphasising on smartphone?
Well for one thing I've adored FolderShare is that it's browser based navigaton and the client silently sits on the host computer. Hence I can even access downloads on my phone via the net !

Say you have a Zen X-Fi with WLAN ability, which supports Wireless Streaming of your music from PC to the Zen.. thats a really cool idea but the Zen X-Fi supports and works as a UNPN Device and hence onl UNPN supported devices can interact with each other on a network and share files (here: Media).

So the possibilites of FolderShare were great, and might as well be a bit better with Live Sync!

Whats next ?

I want Live Mesh and FolderShare to be Merged !!

Creative's NEW Weird Bunch of Geeky Patents.

Recently, I've got my hands on 3 New patents under the company name Creative Technologies.
These 3 Patents were found on Google Patent Search, and they have just recently been released.
First of all, Patents are a great way of seeing what a company wishes to work on (cause they were busy enough to fill in that patent).
Through this way, we can get around to know some bits and pieces of what in their head. But you never know if the 'IDEAS' in the patent are going to stay within the patent or any time be implemented.
That, only time can tell.
So without further ado:
3 Patents.

1: SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERSONALIZING THE USER INTERFACE OF AUDIO RENDERING DEVICES.

( This one IS REALLLLLLLLLY WEIRD and Spoooky !!)

Google Patent link : http://www.google.com/patents?id=kG2nAAAAEBAJ

Read the Whole Patent here : http://www.google.com/patents?id=kG2nAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4#PPA1,M1

Abstract :
Audio playback is used to enhance the control of Personal DigitalEntertainment devices. Embodiments of the present invention provideaudio message files associated with the activation of a control orprovide other device status messaging Audio messages are also providedin file sets that are user selectable to give the user a choice of‘themes’.

So, I'm guessing the above patent applies to a Media Player.
Areas from the patent that are worth mentioning here :
- The Flowcharts.
- The TABLE - The Weirdest thing about the patent... You get to interact with a Robot kind Media Player
(Reminds me of I,Robot where You have to speak to Machines to Interact with them. :P )
- The Ability to make your own 'Themes'.
- Look at the Pictures : The 'Backstage Pass' Option in DAPs !
Now, thats pretty cool.. You get to Review your artist and learn about music, discover and know about Artists more.
HOW Creative might do this ? .. Probably need a connection to the internet ( I smell WiFi ).
Look at the pictures.. (I smell Touchscreen).
Look at the options.. ( I smell a music service option.. ) Hmm...
Backstage Pass
Backstage Pass 2
But the Discovery of Music concept is Pretty Fine.. But the 'robot DAP' thingi going on in here, A bit spooky !!
You can check more pictures and a DETAIL Patent Write up in the links above.

2: SAMPLE RATE CONVERTER AND METHOD TO PERFORM SAMPLE RATE CONVERSION.

This one is VERYY Complicated and Geeky. Wish I could understand most of it :( !

Google Patent Link : http://www.google.com/patents?id=7einAAAAEBAJ

Read the Patent here : http://www.google.com/patents?id=7einAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4

Abstract :
Embodiments of a sample rate converter and method for sample rateconversion are generally described herein. In some embodiments, aninterpolation module calculates new digital samples for insertion intoa digital sample ring, a cache module provides input digital samples ofa digital sample stream to the interpolation module, and a controlmodule maintains and provides state information to the interpolationmodule and the cache module. Based on pitch parameters, the controlmodule provides the interpolation module a fractional portion of anaddress for use in calculating the new digital samples and provides thecache module with an integer portion of the address and an addressincrement.

Have a Look through, Please comment if you do find anything interesting about it.

3: SPATIAL AUDIO ENHANCEMENT PROCESSING METHOD AND APPARATUS.

This is another complicated but very much more geeky I think.
This couldnt be another CMSS 3D sort of technology.

Google Patent Link : http://www.google.com/patents?id=Zd6nAAAAEBAJ

Read the Patent here: http://www.google.com/patents?id=Zd6nAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4

Abstract:
The present invention describes techniques that can be used to providenovel methods of spatial audio rendering using adapted M-S matrixshuffler topologies. Such techniques include headphone andloudspeaker-based binaural signal simulation and rendering, stereoexpansion, multichannel upmix and pseudo multichannel surroundrendering.
How cool is THAT ??
:)
But Very much complicated here. Again Do reply with your opinion/comments.
